Functional Job Duties of a Community Living Support Professional
Agency support staff function as a member of a team that is responsible for the care and supervision of individuals living in a community home in accordance with government and Agency guidelines. Staff persons contribute to the creation of a safe, healthy emotional and physical environment for individuals. Staff follow established programs and interact with each individual in a manner consistent with the expectation that the experience of individuals living in our programs is as typical of that of any person living in the community.
Staff have responsibilities for home and program management. Tasks involved here include preparation of meals, laundry, upkeep of the home, administration of medication(s), accompanying individuals on outings in the community, taking individuals on medical appointments, and accurately documenting and maintaining all required records.
Staff provide direct support to individuals by implementing their ISP (Individual Support Plan) as well as behavior support and /or therapy programs, should they exist. Staff are encouraged to work with individuals to increase their skill levels in the areas of personal care and hygiene and household maintenance. Individuals are encouraged to function as independently as possible in as many areas of their lives as they are able.
Staff persons are expected to maintain a relationship with the Agency by functioning as positive role models contributing constructive ideas and perspectives to the team working in a home. Support staff must also function as positive role models when accompanying the individuals in the community. Staff are expected to follow Agency policies and procedures and carry out all duties and assignments.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required of employees include knowledge of cooking, nutrition, housekeeping, and household management as well as reading, writing, and record keeping skills. Staff are expected to work independently, possess strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrate good judgment. Staff are expected to be able to meet the physical demands of the job such a lifting 25 to 50 pounds, moving about, and walking with, lifting, or supporting individuals in their care.
